Endorsements, Parties, How You Can Help

The re-election campaign is in high gear as we move toward Election Day,November 8. In North Oakland, over 60% of people vote absentee. They will be receiving their ballots in a month! This means September is important for our campaign’s visibility.   Please read on for the latest on who’s endorsed me, chances to see the candidates, how you can help, and parties!

Now that it’s official who the candidates are, the process for organizations to endorse has begun.  I’m honored to have the endorsement so far of:Birthday_Party.JPG

  • Sierra Club

  • Wellstone Democratic Club

  • John George Democratic Club

  • East Bay Women’s Political Caucus

  • Alameda County Building Trades

  • Teamsters

  • Northern California Carpenters

  • GO Advocates

I’m especially honored to have the endorsement of hundreds of individuals. You can see the list and add your name by clicking here

Candidate Forums

Several groups will host candidate forums in the coming weeks.  Upcoming forums where I’ll be participating include:

  • September 12, 6-8, NAACP, La Escuelita Elementary School

  • September 21, Stonewall Democratic Club, 5:30 p.m., Sports Basement, Berkeley

  • September 22, Latino Forum, 6 p.m., St. Jarlath Church

  • September 296 – 6:45 – League of Women Voters Candidate Forum, City Hall

  • October 5, 7:00 p.m., Longfellow Community Association, North Oakland Community Charter School, 42nd and Adeline

  • October 6, 7:30 – 9:00 p.m., Piedmont Avenue Improvement League, Piedmont Gardens, 110 41st Street

  • Oakland Tech PTSA, October 19, 7:30 p.m.

Please attend in person at any of these, especially the League of Women Voters on September 29 (it’s sometimes televised!) and October 6 at Piedmont Gardens.  It’s really helpful when there are friendly faces in the audience.

You Can Help

Since I last ran in 2012, there are nearly 8000 new voters registered in District 1!  No kidding!  Reaching all these people is a big task, and there are lots of ways you can help.

  1. Canvass!  Believe it or not, it’s actually fun talking with voters on their doorsteps.  I’ll be walking most weekends and several weeknights and would love your company.

  2. Sunday Farmers Market at the Temescal DMV.  Can you spare a couple of hours to greet voters, hand out signs, and apply temporary tattoos?  Please contact our Farmers Market Coordinator to sign up.

  3. Post pictures of your sign and/or temporary tattoo on social media, with #votejody.Yard_Sign.JPG

  4. Make sure you have a yard sign!  You can pick them up at 480 Hardy Street or 6315 Chabot Road.

  5. Donate.  Many thanks to all of you have provided financial support. While we’re doing great, we still need to raise several thousand dollars more in order to reach all those voters in North Oakland.  We appreciate anything you can afford.

You can volunteer and donate at www.votejody.com.

Invite Your Friends

We had several great events in August, including a birthday party, a back-to-school wine and cheese, and a backyard conversation.  Many thanks to Nova and David Goldberg, Deb McKoy, David Beiser, Amy Lemley, Justin Horner, Irene Yen, and Andrew Stern for your hospitality.

We have more parties coming up!  Please join us at the following, and bring your friends.

  • Sunday, September 25, 2-4, Afternoon Tea on Broadway Terrace. RSVP here.

  • Saturday, October 8, Temescal House Party.  RSVP here.

Thank you for your support!
